Gems From Adidas Gauntlet

The first stop of a 3 stop series for the Adidas Gauntlet was held in Phoenix, Arizona. We got a chance to check out some of the talent that was spread out over 3 days and played on 20 courts in the beautiful University Of Phoenix Stadium.

Obviously we couldn't see everyone, but here are some who stood out:

2019 Aijha Blackwell (St. Louis, MO) - Team St. Louis Red - a 6'0" physical force. She has a powerful build, plays with physicality and a serious motor!  Seemed to intimidate other players with her relentless style and strength. She routinely got in the paint and finished through contact, as well as dominated the glass. She was one of the most impressive players over the weekend.

2019 Rokia Doumbia (Centerton, AR) - AAO Arkansas Banshees Gauntlet - A 5'9" combo guard with a tremendous combination of power, speed and athleticism. She is tough and explosive!  She guards with tenacity, gets tough rebounds, and is a instant fast break once  she has it. Her vertical is ridiculous!  She created opportunities for her teammates by staying on the attack and dishing to teammates for easy scores. She also had a couple of highlight reel high flying blocks. She is a lock BCS-Level player.

2022 Timea Gardiner (Ogden, UT) - NWBA Elite - This 6'2" long armed kid just knows how to play!  She was the talk of the event amongst the college coaches who were so impressed with her play! One coach told me directly "she does things now that some of our kids don't do." Timea is smart, fundamental, and isn't afraid to mix it up against bigger more seasoned players. Showed a nice touch from 15-18 feet, played with a confidence and maturity beyond her years. She has a bright future, but is a factor presently too. This is our 4th time seeing the kid and each time she performs well and has added something to her game. She has progressed nicely since our initial viewing of her in Las Vegas last July.

2018 Kenedi Hambrick (Antioch, TN) - Team Brandan Wright 2018 Platinum - She played both guard spots. Srands just over 5'7" and plays with alot of confidence. Her handles are nice but her bread and butter is stroking it from deep. She is deceptively quick, and has one of the quickest releases you'll find out there. She made tough contested shots look rather routine. I loved her IQ and competitiveness.

2018 Bryana Langford (Baker, LA) - Louisiana Select Black - A cerebral style shooting guard who mooves extremely well without the ball. She does a excellent job of reading the defense and finding openings to receive the ball and make a play. She is smooth and deadly from the intermediate area off the catch, but made deep perimeter shots off the catch as well. Her dribble attacks were definitive. She used her long arms and 5'10" frame  to score inside as well. A solid contributor.

2018 Kate McClard (Hanford, CA) - Fresno Lady Heat 17U National - At a solid 5'10", Kate has good size for a off-guard. She defends well, but her calling card is shes a knockdown shooter. She knows how to hunt for the soft spots in the defense, has a quick high release, but will put the ball on the deck occassionally to make a play. She embraced pressure and was a reliable relief as a non-primary ball handler! She has a hogh IQ and  would make a nice addition to a program wthat needs someone to stretch the defense.

2019 Jada Moss (Stockton, CA) - Peninsula Elite Black 17U - a wiry strong 5'10" superb athlete. She is a terrific body control, a high motor, defends well, and attacks with purpose off the dribble. She is exceptional at driving baseline and hitting the floater or pull-up with either hand. She was one of the most consistent performers over the weekend.

2019 Madeline Plank (Briarcliff Manor, NY) - Hudson Valley Elite Blue - a 5'10" point guard who can get wherever she wants on the floor. She gave defenders the blues with her array of combo dribbles and decisive game. She can score for self and play make for others. She is a problem off the bounce due to her creativity.

2020 Hailey Van Lith (Wenatchee, WA) - Northwest Blazers Orange - She can flat out play! Definitely the real deal! Tough to find 5 point guards in this class better than her. She is creative off the dribble, creates separation to shott the midrange and 3 pointer off the bounce, uses a different speeds to keep the defenders off balances, runs the team like a savvy veteran, and has amazing court vision, strength and athleticism. Kid is a high level player. Special!

2020 Alexandra Zelaya (Goodyear, AZ) - Arizona Elite Black - A smooth, fluid highly skilled 6'3" small forward. Has a nice game from 18 feet and in. Good footwork, great hands, and a outstanding feel for the game.
